  2. Our Purpose and Goals

Purpose of our Church The purpose of Community Baptist Church is to bring glory to God – How? • by worshipping the Lord in righteousness and holiness, • by evangelizing the lost at home and abroad, • by edifying and equipping the saints through Bible-centered preaching and teaching, and • by dwelling together in warm, Christian fellowship

  4. Purpose of Small Groups • Essentially the same as the church, but specifically focusing on the 3rd and 4th clauses: • A place to edify and equip the saints through Bible-centered preaching and teaching (Ephesians 4:11 – 16) • A vehicle for warm, Christian fellowship

(11) And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, (12) to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, (13) until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ

  6. (14) so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. (15) Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, (16) from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Workers in the small groups • Shepherd • Leader of the small group • Leads opening assembly • Oversees the other small group directors and holds them accountable • Assists Outreach Director with visitation • Assists the teachers (serves as substitute teacher) • Outreach Director • Takes attendance and collects visitor cards • Assigns all absentee contacts and visits • Absent 1st week – email • Absent 2nd week – phone call • Absent 3rd week – visit from class member • Absent 4th week – visit from pastor • Participates in weekly visitation

Workers (continued) • Care Director • Organizes care for those with special needs (meals, serious financial needs, cards, etc.) • Keeps Pastor Mike informed of upcoming surgeries and serious care needs • Missions Director • Reads missionary prayer updates • Informs class of special needs and prayer requests • Coordinates monthly correspondence with missionaries • Activities Director • Plans, promotes and oversees at least 2 class activities • Plans creative ways to encourage fellowship • Teacher • Prepares 8-week Bible study series • Rotates through each small group

  25. Purpose for the leadership • “The Purpose of the CBC T.E.E.N. youth staff is disciple teenagers into becoming God-loving, Word-filled, Ministry-minded servants for Christ.”

Theme verse for the leadership • Colossians 1:9-10 “For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding . So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

  27. Goals • The T.E.E.N. ministry has three primary goals; they are to impact… • The Heart • The Head • The Hands of the young people towards Christ-likeness.

  29. Who is a Teenager? • A young person in 7th - 12th grade. • They must be 12 years old by Sept. 1st

  30. Purpose for the Teens • “The purpose of being in the T.E.E.N. ministry is to know and love God more; and then minister His Word effectively to others for Christ.”

  31. Theme verse for the Teens • II Timothy 2:22 “Now flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”

Curriculum • Developed by youth director/leaders • It begins on Sept. 13th and ends May 30th. • It will cover six different themes through six years (which is how many years a young person is in the T.E.E.N. ministry). • Three “Hot Topics” will be covered during the year. • Bible quizzing will also be incorporated throughout the year.

  35. Sunday Night Program • 1st 20-25 minutes spent in prayer group • Accountability for Devotions • Tally up points for the week • Prayer • Opportunity to learn and say verse • Possible singing • Lesson 25-30 minutes • Possible game / snack

Point System • Points will be gathered throughout the year. • A certain number of points must be reached in order to go on summer reward/missions trip. • A certain number must also be reached half way through the year. • Points can be earned by… • Attending church / youth activities • Memory verses • Christian services • Sermon Notes

Purpose of our Children’s Ministries • Essentially the same as our church, but specifically focusing on the third clause by edifying and equipping the saints through Bible-centered preaching and teaching, • The primary aim of our children’s ministry is Bible-centered, preaching and teaching • The primary aim is NOT to have a great craft time, amazing games, or awards despite that being a primary emphasis in many good, evangelical curriculums

  40. Purpose of our Children’s Ministries • We feel that this aim is best accomplished through a strong emphasis on two critical components: • Biblical Theology • Doctrine

  42. Biblical Theology • God-centered Bible Content • The “big” picture broken down book-by-book • Do we really need the big picture? Some parts are so boring! • Romans 15:4 (cf. 1 Cor 10:6) (4) For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. (emphasis added)

Doctrine • What we believe • Ephesians 4:4-6 • Paul is crystal clear: there is only ONE God and ONE faith to get to Him • We want our children to know enough about the Bible to understand that (4) There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— (5) one Lord, one faith, one baptism, (6) one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Emphasis added)
