See Table 2-1 in student book, Selecting blocks of text Selecting Text • Selecting - highlighting a block of text. • Select text by holding down the left button of the mouse and dragging the pointer to the end of the text you want to select.
Delete and Overtype Text • Backspace key - deletes characters to the left of the insertion point. • Delete key – deletes characters to the right of the insertion point. • Overtype – replaces or types over existing text.
Using Undo and Redo • Undo –reverses recent actions. Click the Undo button on the Standard toolbar or choose the Undo command from the Edit menu. • Redo –reverses an Undo action. Click the Redo button on the Standard toolbar or choose the Redo command from the Edit menu.

Cutting Text • Cut – removes selected text from the document and places it on the Clipboard. • Choose Cut from the Edit menu or the Cut button on the Standard toolbar.
Pasting Text • Paste – text is copied from the Clipboard to the location of the insertion point in the document. • Choose Paste from the Edit menu or the Paste button on the Standard toolbar.
Copying Text • Copy – a copy of the selected text is placed on the Clipboard while the original text remains in the document. • Choose Copy from the Edit menu or the Copy button on the Standard toolbar.
Using Drag and Drop to Move or Copy Text • Drag and drop – quick method to move text a short distance in the text. • Move text – place mouse pointer on selected text. Click and hold down mouse button. Drag text and release button where you want the text to appear. • Copy text – same steps as moving text but hold down Ctrl while dragging.
Summary • You can speed operations by selecting blocks of text. • Delete text using Backspace and Delete. • Replace text using Overtype mode. • Undo recent actions using the Undo command. • Use Redo to reverse an Undo action.
