  1. Year 7 Settlement assessment.

  2. Think about the following that we have covered in class to get the highest level possible. • Make sure you say what type of settlement this is going to be. • Think about the problems we have covered when a settlement expands. • Explain who the winners and losers would be if this settlement went ahead. • Have you explained the positive and negative points this new development will have. • Make sure your argument is one sided either for or against but make sure you included both sides of the argument to show that you understand both sides. • Build in as many key words as you can when explaining your argument such as “ green belt, eco town, isolated dwelling, job creation , carbon neutral etc.” • Show that you understand what type of settlement this will be and why this is a good or a bad location for it. • Make sure you explain what an “ECO TOWN IS” and what features the buildings in an eco town have that make them environmentally friendly. • Explain why this development would be better or worse than regenerating the city centre of Leicester- think about what CBD’s are for and why itthis eco town would need to be outside in the countryside ( what types of houses are built in the centre of towns and cities?) • Include research and drawings to back your argument up. • Hand it in as if it is an official report. • GOOD LUCK! • Ms Bradshaw

  3. Writing Frame for report: Dear Lord mayor of Leicester City Council, Please find enclosed my report on the proposed Pennbury Eco-town. I would like to state the reasons why I support/ do not support this development. (Discuss the location of the site) As you are aware the chosen site is situated ………………….., this is a good/ bad location because……………( state all of your reasons here- Can you include images to back you up: You will need to do some internet research here) ( Now discuss the type of buildings) The proposed town is to be an eco- town that is carbon neutral, as you know this means……………….. Now explain why this is good or bad compared to other types of houses that are built. ( winners and losers) Explain the benefits and drawbacks of this development. I believe that this development will be very good for……. ….however, the following drawbacks have to be considered…….. ………. It is my opinion that the benefits/ drawbacks outweigh the benefits/ drawbacks. The development of this eco-town would be better/ worse than developing other areas of Leicester such as……… because……. ( again can you put any images or pictures in here? This will get you a better mark) I do hope that you will read my report carefully and consider all of the points that I have put forward. In my opinion the building of Pennbuy would be a great success/ a disaster for Leicester. Yours Sincerely, Your name
