Testes • Male organ that produces: • Sperm • Testosterone (male reproductive hormone)
Testes (gland) • The testes are housed In the scrotum outside the body where the temperature is optimal (best) for sperm production
Meiosis occurs in testes • Process by which the sperm are produced • 1/2 amount of chromosomes • Crossover
Testosterone (male hormone) • Stimulates the production of sperm • Facial hair, deep voice and muscles (Secondary male characteristics)
Vas deferens (Tube) • The tube that goes from the testes to the penis • If you cut this tube the delivery of sperm will stop
Urethra • The tube in the penis that is shared by both the excretory and reproductive system
Base your answer on the diagram and your knowledge of biology. Which structure provides the optimum temperature for sperm production? • structure A • structure F • structure G • structure D
The diagram represents the male reproductive system in humans. If structure X was cut off and tied at the arrow, which change would occur immediately? • Hormones would no longer be produced. • Sperm would no longer be produced. • Sperm would be produced but no longer released from the body. • Urine would be produced but no longer released from the bladder
