  15. Businesses are always about bottom line. Do you realize NAF Advisory Boards function somewhat like a business… with its bottom line being student achievement? Yea or Nay? • Businesses are accustomed to dealing with an end product. • A business will influence and improve the product to ensure it’s a winner.

  16. Engaging an Advisory Board What are ways to ensure that advisory board members leave Board meetings and events feeling that their contribution was valued?

  17. Sustaining Advisory Board Members When advisory board members are engaged, sustainability will prevail. Remember the Five Rs

Guiding Questions • The by-laws address succession planning, committee membership, meeting attendance and membership termination. • How do the AB Chair and Academy Director communicate regularly between AB meetings? • How can you ensure continuity from active business partner companies if an employee must leave the AB?

Guiding Questions • What material needs does your academy have that could be financed by your board members monetarily or as an in-kind contribution? • How can the AB raise money and/or develop resources to support/sustain the academy? • What AB recruitment strategies will be used to find members who can successfully serve on a standing committee?

Evidence Binder and/or Folder Examples of materials and information for Evidence Binders: • AB members spending time directly supporting academy students and teachers • AB members providing help • AB preparing a yearly Strategic Plan that includes resource development strategies • AB conducting fund-raising events or other activities to provide financial resources to the academy such as scholarships, compensated internships, travel costs, etc. • By-laws showing succession strategy OR 2-3 year AB development plan to address all components not already in place upon YOP completion [strategic planning session recommended]
