Issac Newton and His Laws of Motion BY: Mona Chiang Powerpoint created by Chikila Moore
Introduction • Why does the ball always bounce back after it hits the floor? • Why can’t I jump so high that I fly above the hoop? • Newton’s laws use math to explain how everything moves.
Who Was Newton? • Newton’s father died 3 months before he was born. • His mom married a rich preacher. • He was sent away to his grandparents and to school. • His father was a farmer who could not read or write. • Issac’s teacher put him a the bottom of his class but he soon became a top student.
Man of Many Sciences • Newton made key discoveries. • Newton studied what other scientist had learned about this. • This law explains that all objects in the universe have gravity. • Newton was the first to recognize that the force holding an object to earth is the same as the force holding the moon. • He used his knowledge of optics to build a powerful telescope.
First Law of Motion • Our push is the force that makes a ball move. • A scientists named GalieoGalilei conducted many experiments to test new ideas. • He studied GalieoGalilei’s work on motion.
First Law In Action • Something needs force to move. • Something has to keep moving at the same speed. • Friction is a force that occurs whenever two objects rub against each other . • This soccer ball has friction.
Other Forces • The force of gravity pulls the ball down. • Newton’s first law applies to more than soccer. • What force or forces might cause those change?
First Law and Space Travel • Friction and gravity affect just about every object on earth. • Outer space has no air particles to cause friction. • Only a force such as the firing of rocket engines.
Inertia • Newton’s first law shows that an object will not change its motion. • An object resists any change in motion.
Acceleration • Acceleration is how fast an object changes speed or direction or both. • You can accelerate when you turn the corner because you change direction.
Math Behind The Law • The second law of motion shows how force , mass , and acceleration are related or connected force=mass*acceleration.
Units of Force • Every measurement includes a number and a unit. Units are called newton’s named after Issac.
Newton’s Third Law of Motion • The third law of motion means that forces always act in pairs. • When one object exerts a force on another object.
The Third Law In Action • You move toward the desk. You pulled on the desk and the desk pulled on you in the opposite direction.
Conclusion • Today , engineers use these laws to determine how much force is needed to boost a rocket into space. • His laws are to design many things. Machines could not have been invented without understanding the laws of motion.
When year was Issac Newton born? • 1)1964 • 2)1642 • 3)2020 • 4)1968
How did Issac’s father die? • 1)you don’t know. • 2)he died in a car accident. • 3)somebody shot him
