Objectives To understand the clarification in the VAE surveillance definition To review how to enter data and retrieve reports for VAE.
Basic VAC Rule • Baseline Period of Stability: ≥ 2 calendar days of stable or decreasing min PEEP or FiO2 immediately preceding the first day of increased daily minimum PEEP or FiO2. • Worsening oxygenation – Changes sustained for ≥ calendar days: • Increase in daily min PEEP of ≥ 3 cm H2O over PEEP baseline period • Increase in daily min FiO2 of ≥ 0.20 (20%) over the daily minimum FiO2. • Definition of VAE Window Period
New VAE Surveillance Clarification As of July 1, 2013, for the purposes of VAE surveillance, daily minimum PEEP values of 0 to 5 cm H2O will be considered equivalent when making VAC determinations.1
