8. Assessment Testing • Required if you are a full-time student seeking a degree or certificate • Highly recommended for all students whether full-time or part-time. • Exemptions: • Valid ACT scores within the last 3 years with a score of 19 or higher in English, Math and Reading • Proof of college level completion of Math, English and 2 courses of Reading with a C or better • Part-time students Urban Campus Only

Assessment Testing • Testing Center is located on the 2nd Floor of Building 1 • Computerized testing • Approximate testing time 2 hours • Schedule an appointment to test after Application for Admissions processed at 515-248-7218 • Test covers reading, writing and math • Must have photo I.D. to test • Study Guide • Results available immediately Urban Campus Only

Meet with an Academic Advisor • Please choose a date for Group Program Registration • Available on a walk-in basis or by appointment, Building 1, Student Life • Be sure to check in with the Information/Registration Desk at least 30 minutes prior to closing • Academic Advisors can assist you with : • Developing educational goals and objectives and a plan to get you there • Course information • Support Service referral Urban Campus Only

16. Alternative Classes • Varying start and end dates • Online: course work offered online, which removes many of the place constraints of traditional education • Web Blended: designed so a student does some work Online, but also comes to class • Television: may be viewed in the library or IPTV or Cable Channel 16 • Learning Communities: courses that are team taught and learning occurs with the same group of peers • Cross Enrollment: under a special agreement students who have completed or transferred 12 or more credits, GPA of 2.0 or above, and enrolled full time during the Fall or Spring semester is eligible to take a course at Drake, Grandview or Iowa State University. Enrolling in Classes • Online with the Web Information System: • User Name, Password, and course reference number (CRN) are needed • In person at the Information/Registration Desk: • Registration form filled out completely • Student ID number filled and form signed and dated • Available Monday – Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to noon • Over the phone (515-964-6800) • Available Monday –Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to noon • Student ID number and CRN’s needed • By fax • Send to 515-965-7054 • Part-time only • Complete Registration form Urban Campus Only

WIRED?Get Connected to DMACC!Web Information System • Go to DMACC homepage at www.dmacc.edu • Click on Login at right of page • Under the Student Section, click on the Web Information System • Enter your User ID (your DMACC identification number 900-xx-xxxx) • Enter your six character PIN • Your 6 digit PIN was mailed to you upon admission to DMACC • You will be asked to create a new PIN which needs to be 6 characters (letters or numbers) in length • If you have forgotten your PIN contact (800)362-2127 ext. 7300 or 515-965-7300 or email info-sys@dmacc.edu to request a new PIN • You are now at the Main Menu Page. Select Personal Info or Student Services and Financial Aid to access your information Urban Campus Only

19. DMACC’s Online Inforamtion System is a service that provides a convenient method for students to obtain information via the Web. The Web Info System allows students to access their personal and academic information. Personal Info: Change PIN (Personal Identification Number), update address, phone numbers, update emergency contact information Student Services and Financial Aid: academic holds, past grades, unofficial academic transcript, summary of financial aid awards, loan history, and Registration Registration: add and drop classes, view class schedules, view account balance WIRED?Get Connected to DMACC!Web Information System Urban Campus Only

20. Paying Tuition • Pay Online in full or set up a payment plan through a tuition management plan with checking/savings account or MasterCard/Visa • In person, at the Business Office with cash, check, money order or credit card • Mail check, money order or credit card information to the Business Office with DMACC ID number • Night Depository Box with check, cash or money order located outside the Business Office Urban Campus Only

21. Financial Aid • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) using the appropriate tax documents • Apply online (at least 2 months prior to the tuition deadline) at www.fafsa.ed.gov • Complete and submit all additional requested information and forms as requested by the Financial Aid Office • The application process takes approximately 4 – 6 weeks Urban Campus Only

22. Financial Aid: Types Scholarships: • Awarded based on merit, need and/or career goals • Apply for DMACC’s Foundation Scholarships • Apply for outside/local scholarships • Strongly recommend student complete the FAFSA to be considered for most types of scholarships Grants: • Gift Aid – financial aid that is based on demonstrated financial need • Pell Grant is the largest federally funded grant program • Grants do not need to be repaid • Financial need is determined by the results of the FAFSA Urban Campus Only

23. Financial Aid: Types Federal Work Study: • Part time job for students who demonstrate financial need • Eligibility is determined by the Student Financial Aid Office Loans: • Money borrowed that must be repaid Contact the DMACC Financial Aid Office for further information Urban Campus Only

Third Party Billing • Third Party Billing: submit the appropriate authorization from your employer or government agency by your payment deadline • Deferred Tuition Plan: for students whose employers pay after the completion of the course • Contact Student Accounts at 515-964-6446 for additional information Urban Campus Only

25. Veterans Educational Benefits • Are you a veteran, dependent of a veteran, guardsmen or reservist? 26. Confidentiality of Student Records In 1976, Congress issued the final rules to implement the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 which protects the privacy of student records at all schools receiving funds from the U.S. Department of Education. All postsecondary students have four specific rights: • Inspect and review their educational records kept by the institution • Request amendments to school records they believe are inaccurate or misleading • Provide written permission before educational records can be released or request that directory information is not disclosed • File a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education Urban Campus Only

27. Confidentiality of Student Records The college may provide the following information including, but not limited to: • Student’s name • Address • Telephone number • DMACC e-mail address • Date and place of birth • Major field of study • Dates of attendance • Degrees and awards received **Directory information may be confidential at the student’s request. Buying TextbooksThe Bookstore is located in Building 1 on the first floor across from the Student Lounge • The Bookstore is your campus source for books, software, supplies, school apparel and more! • Bring your class schedule and identification when purchasing books • Check out Books To Go when you visit the Bookstore • Always read the return policy stapled to your receipt Urban Campus Only

Student Life and Activities • Student Activities Council • As the primary student representative body, the Student Activities Council (SAC) promotes college spirit, provides a focal point for discussions between students and the college staff, and gives students a voice in college affairs. • As a member of the council, you’ll be at “the hub” of activities at Des Moines Area Community College! • Student Clubs Urban Campus Only

Using DMACC Computers • Press CONTROL, ALT, and DELETE at the same time • Enter your user ID • User ID is usually your first initial, middle initial and last name with no spaces. If your last name is fairly common and the first and middle initials are share with another DMACC student or employee, then a number is usually assigned at the end of the user ID. For example, Dennis Joseph Smith’s ID may be djsmith and Donna Joan Smith may be djsmith24 • Enter your password • Password is usually the last four digits of your DMACC student ID number (900-xx-xxxx) • You are now at the desktop and access the internet and other various programs throughout the DMACC Network Urban Campus Only

33. WIRED?Get Connected to DMACC! DMACC EMAIL • Double left click on the blue Internet Explorer from the desktop which, on the DMACC network, will take you directly to www.dmacc.edu (You can access sit at any location with an internet connection, not just on campus.) • Single left click on Webmail on the right hand side of the screen • Enter your user name (same as the previous screen) • Enter your password (same as the previous screen) • Click on Inbox on the left hand side to check your new messages. 34. Public Safety Security is located in Building 1, First Floor Security is available 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday and 8:00 a.m. to noon Saturday Security measures may include but are not limited to uniformed security guards, closed circuit t.v., building security systems, exterior lighting, courtesy phones, and attention to landscape materials. DMACC Security personnel administer traffic and parking regulations, ensure safety and security, and provide assistance to the college community. Urban Campus Only
