  3. Monarch had limited powers • Had no control of the army • No power over local government • Had no voice in assembly • Legislative Powers • Power to declare war • Could raise taxes • Could abolish ancient French providences II. What powers did the new national assembly have?

King would be head of state • He would do the bidding of the national legislature • This would hold more of real government legislature • Citizens gained broad voting rights • Only tax paying men could vote • Had to be older than 25 • Woman could not vote III. How did it make the government more efficient?

Thought that having a Constitutional Monarchy was essential • They were called Girondins • They were moderate members of the legislative assembly • Part of Legislative Assembly • Jacobins didn’t agree with the constitution • Wanted to get rid of the constitution an declare France a republic • Wanted to drive the revolution forward • Disagreed 100% with the Girondins Iv. How did the moderate reformers view this new constitution?

He accepted it but… • He wasn’t able to accept ALL the reforms • He couldn’t accept anything that would effect churches • He fled the country • Him and his family felt unsafe • Put on disguises so they wouldn’t get caught • Eventually they were caught and were taken back to Paris V.
