  4. Linkage for KR-CN, KR-MY KR-CN • Both Gov’t agreed to open KR-CN Link in 1H2004 • Strengthen CJK IT-cooperation thru the LINK & R&A activities KR-MY • Both Gov’t agreed to open KR-MY Link in [45]Mbs in 1H2004 to support SEA thru TEIN • Funding by both parties, half & half

TEIN Update • 4Q2000: ASEM Summit endorsed TEIN Initiative • 4Q2001: TEIN Link opened w/ 2Mbs (KR-FR) • 1Q2002: TEIN Link Upgraded to 10Mbs • 3Q2003: EC announced TEIN2 Action • 4Q2003: TEIN Link upgraded to 34Mbs • 1Q2004: TEIN2 Information Day (14 Jan 2004) • TEIN Link to be upgraded with equal cost sharing • For TEIN2 Action, DANTE is to start feasibility study

Euro • Min 20% from Asian participating countries • Direct Beneficiary: ASEM Asia LDCs • Implementation by DANTE • in consultation w/PC, subject to EC requirements • Time Schedule (1Q2004-4Q2007) • 1Q2004 Feasibility, Procurement … • 3Q2005 Link in operation until 4Q2007 • Candidate Stakeholders from North Asia • ASEM Asia Members: CN, JP, KR … though not direct beneficiary

Understanding on TEIN &TEIN2… TEIN2 Info Day (Brief 14J04) • Current TEIN Link (KR-FR) • The KR-FR Linkage is to be continued • The willingness to upgrade the link has been expressed by KR, EU NRENs & EC, sharing the cost half & half • TEIN2 Action • Support in designating DANTE to do activities for TEIN2 Action… technical, commercial and institutional • Next Meeting for TEIN • May 2004, KL, MY • A type of PC is expected • Refer to www.transeurasia.org

TEIN New Agenda … Understanding to Action 2004 Current TEIN Link (KR-FR) • Present TEIN Link will be upgraded to [155/622] Mbs in 1H2004 • The Link cost is to be shared equally by KR & EU from this Year (EC decision) • Previous plan of TEIN Expansion to SEA might be affected & modified by the progress of TEIN2 Action, considering also the demand of SEA

  10. TEIN New Agenda … Understanding to Action 2004 • TEIN2 Action (~ 2Q2004) • Cooperate with EC & DANTE for Feasibility Study • Deliver Stakeholders’ preliminary views • Submit Commitment for TEIN2 through Gov’t • Purpose, Scope, Membership… of PC drafted • Compose PC and hold 1st meeting

New Initiative in North Asia…CJK G+ Triangle (Rec) • Respond to increasing demands of R&A • 6T as well as next generation network among CJK • Divergent social application & HRD • Function as Common Triangle Hub for global connectivity • Connect links intra-region and/or inter-continental • Collaborate R&A activities therewith • Bridge the digital divide & promote co-prosperity • CJK + TEIN2 Action • CJK + ASEAN
