  10. When should faculty modify the CV? • At the time of promotion if promotion planned after 10/1/08 • As requested by the Department, such as for annual career conferences • As needed • NOTE: HMS does not require that 2009 reappointments submit updated CV format

  11. What’s new? • Grant review activities • Clinical Innovations • Technological Innovations • Education of Patients and Service to Community

  12. What’s been modified? • Hospital service responsibilities • Preparation and contact hours for teaching • Sorting of teaching activities • Explicit opportunities for disclosure of industry activities/support • Separation of peer-reviewed scholarship from other scholarship

  13. What has remained the same? • Most sections request either the same information or the same information enhanced with additional details (e.g., information on funded projects includes all prior requested information, plus information about funding and the aims of the project) • The relative order is unchanged except for - reporting clinical activity later in the CV- locating the narrative at the end

  14. What about FIRST? • Never required by HMS • Used at least in part by <1/3 of the faculty • Notoriously difficult to use • Antiquated technology • Will continue to be available on eCommons • Download from NLM useful but requires modification; still can be used • Not designed specifically to generate a CV • A major motivation for development, linking faculty with colleagues and mentees, now done by the Harvard Catalyst

  15. Features of the CV Template

  16. Translating my CV from FIRST to the new format • Use FIRST to download references from NLM • Produce WORD document from FIRST • Open CV and new template in two windows • For sections that are relatively unchanged, delete template tables and cut and paste from word • For sections that are new or substantially modified, populate the new template tables with data from the prior version

  17. Assistance with preparing the CV • Word outlineCan download outline from OFA website, current CV from FIRST, cut and paste into the new template • Template with fillable tables Can complete tables as needed; delete tables that are not needed; instructions for MS Word and Mac • Department CV Experts/Contacts • Office for Faculty Affairs
