  1. Hypothesis- If plant U is placed in a box, then it will not grow as much as plant T because plant T is receiving more sunlight. Independent – Amount of sunlight Dependent- plant growth Base your answers on the picture and the information below. The two plants, T and U, were given the same amount of water and soil. However, plant U was placed in a box. Form a hypothesis. b. What is the independent and dependent variables?

  2. Cups A and B are filled with same temperature of water and one sugar cube. Which cup will dissolve faster and why? Cup A will dissolve faster because A is being stirred. If both cups are not stirred, you can increase the water temperature to help them dissolve faster.

  3. All _ _ _ _ _ _ is made up of particles called _ _ _ _ _ M A T T E R T O S A M

  4. Draw the molecules in the solid, liquid and gas phases.

  5. Flask A shows a set up before a chemical reaction. Flask B shows what occurs after a chemical reaction. The mass of Flask A and B are the same before and after the chemical reaction. The Conservation of Mass What Law is shown in this experiment? Matter is never created nor destroyed! A B

  6. Physical Changes Chemical Changes Sort the following pictures to its proper location on the T- chart.

  7. gas condensation vaporization liquid freezing sublimation melting Solid • gas • solid • liquid • freezing • sublimation • vaporization • melting • condensation

  8. 4 mL 10 mL The diagrams show two different items being placed in graduated cylinders containing water. What is the volume of the items?

  9. Which picture goes with which of Newton’s 3 Laws? 1st Law- Law of Inertia An object at rest will stay at rest 2nd- F=ma The more mass you have, the more force you’ll have 3rd- for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction Explain why…

  10. Elements Oxygen, Sulfur, Selenium, Tellurium and Polonium are all found in the same group (18) on the table. These elements are grouped together because a. they are all metals b. they react in similar ways

  11. The graph below shows the distance traveled by three different bees. A Which bee traveled at an average of 20 m/s? Average speed = distance traveled time B C A Bee A 20 = 20 m/s 1 Bee B 20 = 10 m/s 2 Bee C 10 = 10 m/s 1

  12. Identify the transformations of energy. Chemical to mechanical

  13. Renewable Nonrenewable Identify the types of energy as renewable or nonrenewable.

  14. Why is the moon’s surface visible to an observer on Earth? The moon reflects the sun’s rays.

  15. In which diagram would the block of wood have the greatest acceleration? 4 kilograms 12 Newtons 3 kilograms Diagram B 20 Newtons 4 kilograms 10 Newtons Diagram C Diagram A HINT!!!! F = ma

  16. Other than cost of building a hydroelectric plant, what is one disadvantage of using moving water to produce electricity? Kills the fish and water wildlife.

  17. Which property of light is illustrated when the boy looks into the fish bowl? Refraction Perceived location Actual location

  18. The golfer is using a club to hit a golf ball towards the hole. In which diagram does the golfer have the greatest potential energy and why? A B C Because the golfers club is at the highest point in the swing.

  19. The diagram shows a toy car. The propeller is turned 10 times, which twists the rubber band connected to it. When the rubber band is released, the propeller turns enabling the car to drive. Kinetic What type of energy results when the rubber band unwinds and the propeller turns, enabling the car to drive?

  20. The diagrams below shows two different surfaces the car will be pushed on. The car can be pushed on either surface. Which surface will allow the car to use less energy and why? Ice because there is less friction Between the surface and the car.

  21. What do the arrows represent on the food chain below? life cycle c. one community replacing another flow of energy d. renewable resource depletion

  22. Organisms that break down _ _ _ _ _ to obtain nutrients that need to survive are _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ a s t e W e c o m p o s e r s d

  23. 1. What would happen within the food web if the trout were eliminated from the population? 2. What two animals are herbivores?

  24. List these five forms of EM energy in order from longest wavelength to shortest wave length. ( x- rays, radio waves, visible light, microwaves, ultra violet) Which type of EM energy can cause sun burns? 3. Which type of EM energy cooks food? 4. Which type of EM energy is used to treat cancer patients? 5. Which type of EM energy is made up of various colors? Radio waves, microwaves, visible light, ultra violet, x rays Ultra violet microwaves gamma Visible light
