The ICRC The ICRC is a private, Swiss, independent humanitarian organization based in Geneva. It works to protect and assist victims of armed conflict or disturbances either on its own initiative or on the basis of the Geneva Conventions.

INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT SOCIETIES (IFRC)
Establishment of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies 5th May 1919, on the invitation of the Chairman of the American Red Cross, Henry P. Division, representatives of America, British, French, Italian and Japanese Red Cross Societies came together to formally establish the League of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies which is now the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies since 28th Nov. 1991. Its First objective was “to strengthen and unite for health activities of existing RC/RC Societies and promote the creation of new Societies.
Federation’s main purpose • The Federation’s main purposes are to assist its member National Societies in:- • Disaster Preparedness • Disaster Response • Health Activities • Promotion of Humanitarian Values • Promote IHL and Fundamental Principles of the Movement. • Among the member Societies, the Federation acts as both • catalyst and coordinator. • It is a forum for ideas and exchange of experience between the • National Societies.
National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies • After the First and Second World War the the NS’s expanded their activities into many fields of medico-social activities like: • Founding Hospitals • Training Nurses • Child care and public health • Health Education • Vaccination Campaign • Pioneering Ambulances • Rescue Services • First Aid Services and Training • Promotion of HV and Fundamental Principles
National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies • The National Red Cross and Red crescent Societies are the base of the Movement. • There are 186 officially recognized Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies uniting around 135 million individual volunteers and over 300,000 employees. • In collaboration with the Federation and ICRC, the National Societies support each other in strengthening and development of their institutional and operational capacities.
