  2. Introduction 2 • Language is a means of communication plays an important role in the world since people need to communicate what they want to say and express what they feel or think. Language can also be used to get information about anything. Making communication by using a language may make people adapt to physical and social environment. • Code switching could possibly occur when the speakers use the languages they have mastered in their communication. In the other words, in a bilingual community, we can hardly find a speaker who speaks one code only. He or she sometimes speaks different codes, moreover in the informal situation • The study focuses on analyzing MTV Ampuh program as one of the television programs use code switching by the presenter. In this program, the presenter performs a high frequency of using code switching especially English and Indonesian. This program is presented by VJ Daniel and VJ Ben. 12345678910

  5. Code Switching 5 • According to Roger T Bell (1976), code switching is the individual is able to switch from one language to another or from one style language to another. Suwito (1983) says the code switching is a change language code to another code, while Dell Hymes (1975) says that code switching is a change or switch between two language or even though more than one variety of language. 12345678910

Factors that Make Code Switching 7 • A speaker may be incapable of expressing themselves in one language, so he switches to his language to make up for the lack of the vocabulary in the other language. • Moreover, the speaker of certain cannot express them selves satisfactorily in one language. • Moreover, switch to another in order to satisfy that feeling. 12345678910

In this case, code switching used by VJ Daniel and VJ Ben in MTV Ampuh music program.This program is held at 11.00-12.00 AM. The data is taken from the written transcription of the recorded data. The use of code switching from the recorded data is done in one session programs, and then describes the factors category of code-switching 12345678910

  9. DISCUSSION 9 • Based on the data above, the total numbers of the code switching categories are 16 words, 12 phrases, 8 clauses, 19 sentences. While the type of code switching in situational code switching is 20, 15 metaphorical code switching, and 24 conversational code switching. 12345678910

  10. CONCLUSION 10 • Code switching is a kind of language used in communication by combining two or more language. People can create language variety by using different code. During their show, they frequently switch their language from Indonesian to English. The use of this code switching may occur when they speak in Indonesian, then in the first or the middle of utterances, they switch their language to English. In this case, MTV Ampuh that is performed by VJ MTV Daniel and VJ Ben is one of TV program using code switching. There are four categories found in using code switching. Those are words code switching, phrases code switching, clauses code switching, and sentences code switching. Besides, there are types of code switching namely situation code switching, metaphorical code switching and conversational code switching. • Considering the analysis of the data, it can be inferred that the total numbers of the code switching categories are 16 words, 12 phrases, 8 clauses, 19 sentences in code switching. While the types of code switching in situational code switching are 20, 15 metaphorical codes switching and 24 conversational code switching. • There are also some factors of using code switching. The presenter uses code switching because he has different factors or reasons such to make the program interesting, to present the program into informal one so that the audiences do not feel bored, to express modern language style, and to express the ability of his second language. He is also motivated to use code switching in order to make language practically. 12345678910
