How to Use a Screen Recorder CS 292
Step 1 • Download the software from www.microsoft.com • (Mac users will need something different – see your Blackboard mail) • Go to “downloads”
Step 2 • Go to “Download Center”
Step 3 • Go to “Windows Media”
Step 4 • Go to “Windows Media Encoder 9 Series” • Then ”Validate” • Then download and “run” the setup file and download Windows Media Encoder
Step 5 • Make sure you have the initial window you want to display open on your desktop • Go to your “Start” menu and open the “Windows Media” folder • Launch “Windows Media Encoder”
Step 6 • Double click on “Capture screen”
Step 7 • Check (click) the box by “Capture audio…” • Click “Next”
Step 8 • Make sure the “High” setting is selected • Click “Next”
Step 9 • Browse for the folder you want to put the recording in and name the file appropriately • Click “Next”
Step 10 • Fill out the first two lines here • Click “Next”
Step 11 • Make sure this box is clicked • Click “Finish”
Step 12 • Now you are ready to record • When you click “Ok” this screen will be minimized to your bottom toolbar, your top window on your desktop will be displayed, and the recording is automatically rolling • To end the recording, reopen this window from your toolbar and press “Stop”
Final Steps • When you stop the recording, the file is automatically saved as a .wmv file to the folder you selected in Step 9 • These files upload easily to your wiki • But I’ve had trouble getting YouTube to accept them, so I have converted them to .mov files using a “converter” I purchased (very small fee) from http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/
