Motivation • Mass of charm quark is high (~1.3 GeV/c2) • Production can be described by pQCD • Produced early in hard processes • Quarkonia (J/ψ, ϒ) are expected to be suppressed in QGP • In-medium screening of color charge – temperaturedependent • Otherimportanteffects: • Recombinationfromuncorrelatedcharmpairs • Observedyields are a mixtureofdirectproduction + feeddown (alsofrom B meson) • Coldnucleareffects (such as modification to PDFsornuclearabsorption) Satz, Nucl.
