Whythatkind of study? MonikaMiedziarek, PoznanUniversity of Technology
Whythatkind of study? Why I choose this studies. It’s a really good question. When I finished high school I didn’t know what I want to do in my life. I think the same problem has a lot of young people. I just knew that : I likemathematic. I likechallenges. These studies seemed interesting. MonikaMiedziarek, PoznanUniversity of Technology
Man and Womanproportion. When I started electrical engineering first year was very hard because it was something about 90 men, which I didn’t known, and only two women me and my friend Danka. Unfortunately we were allocated to different groups. So sometimes I felt alone. When I started computer engineering it was similar also two woman but only 35 men. Electrical Engineering 2 (w) – 90 (m) Computer Engineering 2 (w) – 35 (m) MonikaMiedziarek, PoznanUniversity of Technology
What do youneed to survive: • Familysupport I remember that my grandfather really supported me, he was proud that his granddaughter study electrical engineering. He gave me my first soldering iron and screwdriver set. Unfortunately, he died before I became an engineer. • Ability to adapt Men have different interests than women. If you want to be a woman in men’s world you must adapt. It’s mean that you must find a common ground. I’m started interesting in football, reading men’s newspapers to had topic to conversation. • Hardwork This study are not easy. There are a lot of technical knowledge. And only hard work is guarantee of success. MonikaMiedziarek, PoznanUniversity of Technology
MY WORK MonikaMiedziarek, PoznanUniversity of Technology
First job – assistant of production menager • My first real job was assistant of production manager. I worked in company dedicated to creating steel construction. It was not related to the electrical engineering industry, but it was also very interesting. I really liked production manager, he taughtme a lot of different things. • In this job it was a few advantages: • I could do the same things that men do. • I knew technical drowning better than production manager, it was a big plus. • As a woman I always had a different view than other employee, often better. MonikaMiedziarek, PoznanUniversity of Technology
First job – assistant of production menager It was also some disadvantages. I was the only woman in hall. Some employees were happy that finally woman working there. But, some employees treated me worse, because I’m a woman. Especially older workers didn’t accept me on this position.
Currentjob – Universityteacher Now I work as a university teacher – assistant in Polytechnical Institute. Why I like this job. I have good contact with students. I enjoy teaching. I’m doing my PhD. Parts of lecturers supports me and give good advice. MonikaMiedziarek, PoznanUniversity of Technology
Currentjob – Universityteacher It’s also some disadvantages. Some people give me to understand that they don’t want me here in this school. I'm younger and I'm a woman so I'm worse. I’m not. I’m as good as they are maybe even better. So, I don’t give up, and I work hard, as hard as I can to proved them how wrong they are.
If i couldturn back time … I wouldchooseexactlythe same studies.
