What do you notice about Chief Vann? This is Chief James Clement Vann’s House, constructed between 1802-1804. Location: Spring Place, Murray County, Georgia.
Spring Place Spring Place was part of James Vann’s Diamond Hill Plantation. Vann, a member of the Cherokee nation, was a successful trader and politician. His land also included taverns, Trading posts, a gristmill, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, ferries and other assorted business.
Vann bought slaves to do labor intensive work, and hired white and Cherokee overseers to help maintain the property.
