  1. Question 1 • To what degree is emotion biological or “hard-wired,” and therefore universal to all human beings? To what extent is it shaped by culture and hence displayed differently in different societies and contexts?

  2. Question 2 • What possibilities for knowledge are created by reason? What are the advantages of being able to reason about something rather than, say, feeling something, dreaming about something, wishing something to be the case?

  3. Question 3 • Can we ever know anything purely through emotions? How do emotions interact with reason, language, and sense perception?
