A little about me … • Seventh year teaching (third year at HPMS) • Grew up in Philadelphia • Degrees: • Masters in Education—George Mason • Math Major—University of Michigan • Earth/Space Science Minor—University of Michigan • Secondary Math Teaching Cert.—University of Michigan • Lives in the Leesburg

  4. This is a critical year in math for your child because … we are building a strong math foundation

  5. Math Sequence Math 8 Algebra 1 -- grade on high school transcript Geometry --grade on high school transcript Algebra 2 --grade on high school transcript Etc.

  6. Algebra 1 Class ONLY • This is ONLY for students taking Algebra • This IS a high school credit class, which means colleges will see this grade students are expected to be attentive, complete homework each night and stay on pace with material

  7. What you need • 3 dividers (Notes, Homework, Assessments) • Pencils, pencils, pencils! • Chrome book-fully charged • Tissues are always needed and appreciated 

  8. Homework …. • 20-30 minutes every night (uninterrupted) “With practice comes speed and accuracy.” • No late homework accepted • 2All problems complete with all work shown on time. • 1 Half the assignment is completed • 0 Not turned in on time

  9. Google Classroom • All resources will be located on my google classroom site • Grades will be as up to date as possible in Phoenix

  10. Math book and calculator • You will be receiving a math book for home to use as a supplemental material • Desmos calculator online

  11. Keys to success … 1. Be engaged in class 2. Do all homework 3. Ask questions

  12. One small request … Ask them what happened in math class that day.
