How do you score points in Rugby? • Try = 5 points • Conversion = 2 points • Drop Goal = 3 points • Penalty = 3 points What restrictions are there? • Conversions can only happen if a try is scored, so you cannot have more conversions than tries. • But, you are allowed fewer conversions than tries.

  3. Calculate the number of points scored by these teams • 4 tries, 3 conversions and 1 penalty • 2 tries, 1 conversion, 5 penalties, and 2 drop goals • 1 try, 4 drop goals, and 2 penalties  Who wins? • Team A scored 3 tries, 3 conversions and 1 penalty • Team B scored 1 try, 3 penalties and 4 drop goals

  4. 30 points could be scored by • 6 tries Or • 3 tries, 3 conversions & 3 penalties, Or • 4 drop goals & 6 penalties Find 4 different ways of scoring each of the following number of points • A 25 points • B 38 points • C 45 points • D 63 points

George’s team won by scoring points from tries alone. • Their goalkicker had a bad day and missed every kick. • If the opposition scored 28 points what is the minimum number of tries George’s team scored to win? • If the opposition scored 38 points, what is the minimum number of tries George’s team scored to win?

  6. Graham’s team won their rugby game on Saturday. • They scored 2 penalties and one conversion; the rest of their points came from tries. • If the opposition scored 38 points, what is the minimum score Graham’s team achieved?
