Introduction North East London Cardiovascular and Stroke Network • Stroke rehabilitation is the only evidence based treatment for stroke recovery once the initial (72hr or so) medical intervention has ended • For those who survive a stroke, the recovery of neurological impairment takes place over a variable time span. About 30% of survivors will be fully independent within 3 weeks, rising to nearly 50% by 6 months

Introduction North East London Cardiovascular and Stroke Network • Rehabilitation needs to be stroke specialised, seamless and accessible • The National Stroke Strategy (particularly life after stroke) provides some key quality markers and the London stroke strategy operationalises these into specific services standards
