ECN Topic 4 Engine Flow and Combustion EFC Agenda: ECN 3.0 through 3.X Organizers: David Reuss & Cecile Pera Brian Peterson & Sebastian Kaiser
INTRODUCTION: ECN3.0 Workshop begins the new Topic 4.0, Engine Flows & Combustion (EFC). • Purpose: • ICE-simulation benchmarking of in-cylinder flows, sprays, & combustion. • Understanding fundamental ICE physics • Identify cycle-to-cycle variability, CCV, sources & control mechanisms.
Objectives: • From existing experimental and simulation collaborations • Identify: • State of the art. • Quantitative assessment of simulation efficacy. • Approached used to identify CCV. • Define EFC topics for ECN3.X, 2014 – 2015
Introduction(cont.): • Scope of ECN3.0 EFC: • available experimental data. • Spark–ignited ICE. • Volunteered Contributions
EFC Topics @ ECN 3.0 • Major TopicsPresenters • 4.1 Measurements for Simulation benchmarking B. Peterson • 4.2 Simulation-to-simulation benchmarking (LES, RANS) C. Pera • 4.3 Benchmarking: comparisons, analysis, and validation D. Reuss • 4.4 CCV origins and abatement C. Pera • Open Discussion
EFC Panelist-Inspired Open Discussion EFC Priorities and Needs for ECN 3.X • Action Items: • Choose most important & universal problems preventing effective simulations. • Must inspirer non-competitive unfunded effort
