IT Modeler Check Point February 2, 2006
The information needed to make informed, strategic and tactical decisions is limited due to the absence of a common repository for information about IT resources for all HHS agencies. Resources meaning the tools, systems, services, people, etc. What’s the Problem?
Where is the information today? Software such as excel or word Frequency of update or validation Local or network drive Knowledgeable employee Consistency of information Duplication of effort Sources of information
Week 1 – Installation, trial run, full run of data discovery, Unisys on-site Week 2 – Data alignment, training, knowledge transfer, Unisys on-site Week 3+, EASM will continue to populate ITM with data to explore capabilities of product Determine reports that provide the greatest benefit. Prepare assessment of issues, recommendations and lessons learned Schedule of Activities
POC focus • Discovery • Initially 10 systems for validation (performance, ETC) • Scale to perhaps 100 systems • Alignment • Align portions of TechCat • Align portions of SysCat output with discovered systems • Align other HHSC data collected • Reporting • Generate custom reports per HHSC • Training • Train HHSC on installation • Execution of all ITM components including process on data alignment • 4 week effort (2 weeks on site engineering assistance)
Kickoff technical meeting on January 23 Members from across infrastructure org. participated Concerns addressed through test run approach Installation
Started with a 10 named servers for dry run Then ran larger listing for full discovery 255 servers list (159 successful IP address) Then ran smaller list for subnet discover Results 146 discovery (91 DHS, 32 MHMR, 23 WDC) of 159 Wintel Discovery
