Temperatures • Temperatures don’t range far apart in the winter to summer months. • The temperatures never go over 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit • The winter temperatures are always around 20 degrees Fahrenheit • Summer temperatures range from 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit.
Rainfall • Happens mostly during the winter. • Gets 25 cm (10 in) of precipitation per year. • Gets mostly snow and sleet.
POLYGONS • Landforms that make up most of the Tundra are: mountains, valleys, ice sheets, frozen waterfalls, and lakes • Three unique ones are: pingos, frost boils, and polygons • Pingos are dome shaped mounds consisting of a layer of soil over a large core of ice. • Frost boils also known as frost scars are up wellings of mud that occur through permafrost heave and cryoturbation • Polygons are just what they sound like – they form from the freeze thaw cycle- they are pieces of ground shaped like polygons PINGOS FROST BOILS POLYGONS
