Introducing Ourselves Laura • 13 year old • Going into 8th grade Nijah • 11 year old • Going into 7th grade Rachel • 14 year old • Going into 9th grade Samhita • 11 year old • Going into 7th grade
Overview • We went to the airport to answer the question: What makes planes fly? (This would help to build our balsa wood planes) • We learned about how the wing positioning, plane shape, etc. affects how the plane flies • To let go of some tension, we went to one of Purdue’s larger fountains and had some fun!
The Airport • We went to a room in the airport and made paper airplanes to see what components would change how the plane flew • We went to the hangar to look at some airplanes (This was to see what consists of an airplane)
Learned We learned that a plane must have: • A minimized Drag and Mass • An average Lift and Thrust • A good center of gravity • It has to be dihedral
Fountain Run • After the wonderful 45 minute walk in the blazing heat, we finally got a good chance to bond with one another while having fun and cooling down • We went around the fountain trying to hug it, get soaked, squirt water at each other, and many other crazy things! • We were having so much fun that some other people on campus joined the party!
Final Thoughts We would like to thank our counselors Chelsea, Maria, Benny, and Lillian. And we would also like to thank Ms. Good, Ms. Donald, and Ms. Clark. Not to mention, our instructors Ms. Kim and Ms. Susan. We all thank Purdue for all of their efforts. We all thank our parents for putting in the time and money and hard work to get us here, and for letting us come. We recommend this camp to anyone who is ready for some FUN!!!
