Les Adverbes- What they do. • An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb. • He reads often. • She drove a very fast car. • They did it really well.
Les Adverbes- Position • In English, adverbs are usually positioned at the end of the sentence, but not always. • We sing badly. • She wants to play soccer, but can rarely play.
Les Adverbes • In English, adverbs can be formed from nouns and adjectives by adding an –ly ending. • In French, adverbs can be formed by adding a –ment ending. • Anytime you see that ending, you are looking at an adverb.
Les Adverbes • In French, the adverb is never placed between the subject and verb. • It is always placed after the verb it modifies. • Je joue bien au foot. • Elle chante mal.
