I. A Brief Introduction to Islam. A. Muhammad. 3. Gaining support in Medina in 630 he returned to Mecca and occupied the city. He liberated a pagan center in the city destroying its idols and made it a sacred site known as the Kaaba. 4. Muhammad died in 632.
