EGENOSS • EGENOSS-DB (Relational Data Base) • Used to manage the technical characteristics of the installations • Collects and sorts all data necessary to best adapt production to demand • History and traceability of data changes • Stores relational, non time-related data • Stores future data • Allows easy integration with other applications • Web based user interface • EGENOSS-Scada • Used for control purposes through RTU’s, PLC’s, Controllers etc… • RT communication to GRID operator using Elcom/TASE-2 protocol • Focus on maximal reliability, less on HMI or flexibility • Requires high security standards • Optimized for high speed event processing • Limited usage: only authorized personnel can execute control actions • Not used for complex and recursive calculations • Historical data archiving limited to a few hours. • EGENOSS-Application Library • Complex Calculations • EU: performance monitoring (thermal, nuclear) • CNR: Hydro performance • Glow: asset optimization • Automatic & manual data validation modules • AGC (RT) • Online Customer management • Asset Structure database (AF, naming convention) • Reference displays & reports • EGENOSS-Historian(PI) • Real-Time data, time related data storage • Computation engine handling complex calculations • Focus on flexibility and integration with other Systems /applications • Concentrates on data integrity rather than on reliability • Broad range of users • Interface using Web technology • Not used for control actions • Not used to store relational data
Technology • about 30 Servers • 10 more in project orexpected
Examplesof PI Applicances Pleasenotethat the values in the displays have been ‘virtualised’ here and therefordiscretionreasons
Flexible Scada Displays “Our italian subsidiary needed to have more flexibility within the SCADA HMI screens. Each little change cost them fortune, and it took very long before it was implemented.By mirroring the most important screens to PI Processbook displays, we achieved full HMI freedom and we could therefore make changes fast when we needed to… at nearly no cost.” Customer Business Challenge Solution Customer Results / Benefits • Providing more flexibility in our scada HMI designs • Display Scadainformation to informationconsumersoutsideourplants • Combine Scada plant info with market informations • Implemented PI system to provide relevant critical data to all targeted organisation levels • Promote realtime plant data to our office environments via Processbook & Datalink • Create PI Processbook screens with mixed information from inside and outside our production sites • The right information to the right person, without emailing periodical reports to each other • Focused operational data on needed targets for key support groups • Better understanding of our production processes due to direct information access
Dataflow analysis & validation “We found out that the data from our measurement equipment was not always trustworthy. This data was input for our automated energy management systems (AGC). Each little fault can potentially cost a fortune, especially at peak hours (Energy Prices are high!) Via online analysis in PI (e.g. Energy Balances) we were able to identify irregularities – enabling us to take the necessary actions to improve the dataflows. Jacques de Block, EGENOSS process information manager Customer Business Challenge Solution Customer Results / Benefits • Higher reliability of EMS • More efficient EMS means:Less penalties & better production-demand alignment • Better understanding of our Energy Management processes due to direct information access for the stakeholders • Optimise Energy Management system performance • Optimise data quality • Identify input data flaws • Extend our PI system to automatically provide information about the quality of critical measurements • Promote automatic validation results to production analists • Takeactionbasedon the acquiredinformation
Why PI? Ourdriversforchoosing the PI platform:1) PI is a toolbox, not a ‘black box’ application 2) Ease of use (the clients PB and DL are real gadgets) 3) With PI youcangetimmediateresultsno heavy cross-departementalprojects, nottoomany IT projects 4) PI is veryinterconnective(all industrystandardssupported, includingexamplesolutions/projects) 5) Excellent customer support 6) Itsellsitself!
Future To enhance the EGENOSS platform forourusers, we invest in platform extensions. The most significant developmentsfor the PI platform are:1) AnalysisFramework - EnterpriseAssets & informationstructure - Detaileddevice list for relevant installations 2) Concept: Business DataflowQuality - Have a good look at the flow of data through the business processeswe believethatthis is oftenoverlooked -> it is needed to bringus to the next levelconnectour BUSINESS to our TOOLS 3) Custominterfacingfrom/to PI- SOA connectivity , Manual input
Summary: whatcan PI do foryou • Versatile promotion of realtimeoperational data to the ‘office’ colleagues • Rich suite of analysis tools • Rapidacceptancebyusers • Easy creation of displays & reports (Processbook, Datalink) • Easy to achieveuniformity (Module Database, Aliases, AF) • Extensivecollection of input interfaces (mostly out of the box) • Variety of output options (PIclients, web, Office integration, files, protocols..)
