  1. CHRISTMAS TRADITION GoguAndreea clasa A6A B

  2. WHAT IS Christmas means? • Christmas (Old English: Crīstesmæsse, meaning "Christ's Mass") is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed holiday, celebrated generally on December by billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it closes the Advent season and initiates the twelve days of Christmastide, which ends after the twelfth night. Christmas is a civil holiday in many of the world's nations, is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians, and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday season. • While the birth year of Jesus is estimated among modern historians to have been between 7 and 2 BC, the exact month and day of his birth are unknown. His birth is mentioned in two of the four canonical gospels. By the early-to-mid 4th century, the Western Christian Church had placed Christmas on December 25, a date later adopted in the East.[18][19] The date of Christmas may have initially been chosen to correspond with the day exactly nine months after early Christians believed Jesus to have been conceived, or with one or more ancient polytheistic festivals that occurred near southern solstice (i.e., the Roman winter solstice); a further solar connection has been suggested because of a biblical verse[a] identifying Jesus as the "Sun of righteousness".

  3. CHRISTMAS TRADITION IN ROMANIA -ONE OF THE TRADITION IS DECORATING THE TREE Custom adornment Christmas tree originate from the Germanic peoples. The tradition spread to the rest of Europe and then worldwide after world. From tree ornaments candy tree, balls and garlands have become classics.

  4. STRIDE Christmas celebration is announced by the custom of caroling children and Star , to proclaim the birth of Jesus . Also, an old tradition is " going with the icon " kind of wandering priests is made by the local community with the icon of the Nativity , blessing the houses and Christians . Winter Carols are sung ritual texts , dedicated to Christmas and New Year. Their origin is lost in the ancient history of the Romanian people . Recalling when the birth of Jesus , appeared in the sky the star that guided the three magi kings birthplace children - three as the three wise men - going from house to house singing Christmas carol " Star rises above ... " bearing with them a star. Christmas Eve carol begins with " Good morning, Christmas Eve ! " Beautifully decorated homes receive their carolers . These hosts are rewarded with fruit, pretzels , sweets and even money. Some songs carols were performed composers of classical music such as : " Here come the carolers ' TiberiuBrediceanu ," Oh, what wonderful news " of DG Kiriac " Domnuleţ and Lord in heaven" by Gheorghe Cucu . The writer Ion Creangă describe " Childhood Memories " walking adventures with carols . However, after further reading of the Gospels , we find that visitors who had come with gifts to Jesus were not kings, but astrologers ( then called magi or wizards ) come from the East, probably in the area of Babylon . Another interesting aspect is that it is not mentioned anywhere astrologers number and number of gifts , but the kind gifts of gold , frankincense and myrrh white . Carols , carols and customs are also present in other countries , and it may be that they dated during Romanization . For example , Romanian carol " Arise , host of the crib " and Walloons there , where it is most prevalent , as " DjiVéncwerîm'cougnou d' Noye " .

  5. FOOD TRADITION • For 40 days before the holidays, Christians respect Christmas, ending on Christmas Eve after mass. Ignat butchering day (December 20) is an important time anticipating Christmas. Preparing meals takes on the dimensions of an ancient ritual: sausages, chişca drum, aspic, cabbage rolls, Caltabosicozonac will reign on the Christmas table.

  6. -slaughter pig . On December 20th we celebrate Ignatius, cutting the pig. Ignatius popular name is called Ignatius Inatoarea or pigs, because on this day to sacrifice pigs to prepare dishes that will rest on the Christmas table. This tradition of slaughtering the pig in day time Ignat is a very old practice that lasts and I think will always linger in the traditions of the Romans. According to the site crestinortodox.ro, Ignatius is a solar deity who took the name and date of the celebration of St. Ignatius Orthodox calendar.

  7. -Santa Claus Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle and simply "Santa", is a mythical figure with legendary, historical and folkloric origins who, in many Western cultures, is said to bring gifts to the homes of the good children on December 24, the night before Christmas. However, in some European countries children receive their presents on St. Nicholas' Day, December 6.[1] The modern figure of Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas, which, in turn, has part of its basis in hagiographical tales concerning the historical figure of Christian bishop and gift-giver Saint Nicholas. During the Christianization of Germanic Europe, this figure may have absorbed elements of the god Odin, who was associated with the Germanic pagan midwinter event of Yule and led the Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession through the sky. Over time, traits of this character and the British folklore character Father Christmas merged to form the modern Santa Claus known today.
