Aims of today • Provide you with a clearer picture of the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme And • Support you in identifying nominees and guiding them in developing the strongest case possible for their claim for a national teaching fellowship.
The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme aims to: • Reward and recognise excellent teaching • Celebrate teaching excellence • And thus • Help with parity of teaching to research
Recognise • Institutional • national - public • national/international teaching and learning Celebrate • awards ceremony Reward • the award • other reward?
The Award • £10 K • paid to the institution • to support the individual’s professional development • Institutional finance rules and procedures apply • Should not just be for expected/anticipated development and supporting equipment • Short report after 3 years to address how award has helped individual’s development

Criteria for 2009-2010 Criterion 1 Individual excellence: evidence of promoting and transforming the student learning experience. Criterion 2 Raising the profile of excellence: evidence of supporting colleagues and influencing support for student learning in (and, if appropriate, beyond) the nominee’s institution, through demonstrating impact and engagement beyond the nominee’s immediate academic or professional role. Criterion 3 Developing excellence: the nominee’s commitment to her/his ongoing professional development with regard to teaching and learning and/or learning support.
Some Scheme figures • Eligibility criteria: All HEIs funded directly by the funding councils plus further education colleges with 100 plus FTE HE students. • Number of eligible institutions 2002: 156. • Number of eligible institutions 2010: 215. • Total number of NTFs awarded: 428.
The scheme for 2010-2011 • Application approach review • January 2011 - call for nominations • March 23rd and 30th - nominations deadline • By July 7th - all nominees informed of outcome • 27th July - winners published • October- award ceremony
