College Entrance Tests & Scores The CSU accepts the SAT I Reasoning Test or ACT. CSU Mentor SAT school code – 3594. CSU only looks at Critical Reading and Math portion of SAT I Reasoning Test. If multiple score reports, the highest score earned in each single sub score of the examination is used. Example: 1st time: 500 M + 600 CR= 1100 2nd time: 550 M + 550 CR= 1100 CSU total = 550 M + 600 CR= 1150

Early Assessment Program The California State University (CSU) system has designed a tool whereby ONLY high school JUNIORS can assess whether they are prepared for college. 81% of Juniors participate in the EAP csu

REPORTING TIMELINE • March: Students sit for the EAP English essay. The essay may be administered on multiple days at any school site. • April: Students take the CST + EAP. • Summer: ETS scores the exams. • August: ETS delivers EAP results to district offices. • EAP district roster, with students grouped by school • 2 copies of STAR student reports • STAR student CD-ROM • Transcript labels do NOT include EAP results • Then: Districts mail STAR student reports to students’ homes. One copy stays in students’ files at school. Released results are matched to applications in CSUMentor and available for online look-up. csu

Early Start Program • Early Start was outlined by the CSU Board of Trustees Goals of Early Start are to: better prepare students in math and english, prior to Fall enrollment of freshman year ultimately improve a students' chances of successful completion of a college degree
EarlyStartProgramParticipation Existing exemptions for ELM/EPT assessment continue (EAP, SAT, ACT, AP, etc.) Deficiencies are be determined by test scores on: Early Assessment Program (EAP) Entry Level Mathematics Exam (ELM) English Placement (EPT) ACT/SAT results be used when EPT/ELM results are not available
EarlyStart Phased approach to implementation Students who need remediation will be required to begin an Early Start Program prior to fall enrollment If admitted freshmen began addressing remediation in a recognized CSU program before enrollment, they will be permitted to enroll for the term for which they have been admitted, whether they have completed remediation or not.
WhoNeedstoParticipate Students not proficient in math and English will begin remediation in summer 2012 (caveat) Students who score in the lowest quartile on the EPT need to participate in 2012 (138 cut score) Students who score between 138-147 on EPT will need to remediate in college 2014 all students below 147 on EPT will need to remediate
EarlyStartProgramCompletion Students who have begun and/or partially achieved proficiency in a recognized Early Start Program will have his/her status recognized by all other CSU campuses Student will have choice of completing requirement at “destination” campus, “service” campus and/or online. Status will be transferred to “destination”.
EarlyStartSmart Page Campuses will direct students to the Early Start Smart Page Service area campuses will offer a 1 unit course Cost $180 Financial aid waiver for eligible students
