  3. INTRODUCATION • a honeypot is a trap set to detect, deflect, or in some manner counteract attempts at unauthorized use of information systems. Generally it consists of a computer, data, or a network site that appears to be part of a network.

  4. DETAIL OF HONEYPOT • Honeypots come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. • They can be fitted to internal, external, and remote systems. • They can be used with routers . • Use of honeypot we can deal with the threat of hackers and other malicious attacks.

WHAT A HONEYPOT IS • Honeypots are programs that can distract possible attackers from attacking a computer system. • They can also provide for early warning signals that possible trouble may have occurred within the system. • They can also give a detailed assessment of the system’s attacker. • They are a security resource that does not contain authorized activity or any production. • And use of this software hacker will getting personal information from your system.

Brief History of Honeypot • The first type of honeypot was released in 1997 called the Deceptive Toolkit. • In 1998 the first commercial honeypot came out. • This was called Cybercop Sting . • In 2002 the honeypot could be shared and used all over the world. • In 2005, The Philippine Honeypot Project was started . • And this is used to promote computer safety over in the Philippines.

Research Honeypots • These are almost the exact opposite of production honeypots. • Research honeypots are complex to deploy and maintain. • Research honeypot are used to emulate a system. • capture extensive information. • and are used primarily by research, military, or government organizations.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES • One of the key advantages of establishing a honeypot is its simplicity. • The second advantage of honeypots is the small data collection. • The third advantage is cost, Some simple versions can be downloaded for free, You can purchase a more technical version for thousands of dollars. ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES The biggest challenge honeypots face is their narrow field of view. Honeypots can only see activities directed against. The third disadvantage of honeypots is risk.
