Open to page 146Subject & Theme • Theme and Subject are NOT the same thing • Theme is the idea the author wishes to convey about the subject • Subject can be expressed in a word or two, like courage, survival, war • A theme is a general message or lesson about life; the will the survive, the courage to succeed in life
Page 147: Tim Burton • We will return to page 146 after reading the article on Page 147 • While reading the article, highlight different subjects that appear in Burton’s films that reflect his beliefs or experiences • Make notes in the margins about these subjects; why would Burton include them in his films?
