MAP OF FINLAND(MAIN CITIES,RIVERS,MOUNTAINS) • Espoo, Tampere, Vantaa and Turku are some of many large cities in Finland. • Finland is known for its 200,000 lakes which include saimaa and inari. • The 2 highest mountains in Finland are Sanna Lapponia 1029 metres which is 11 metres smaller then Carrantuohill and Yllaastuturi 718 metres. • The 2 longest rivers in Finland are Kemijoki river 522 km 192 km longer then the river Shannon and Lijoki river 330 km.

FINLAND • The population of Finland is 5,255,068. • Its capital city is Helsinki. • Other main cities include Espoo which has a population of 229,500 and Tampere which has a population of 201,200. • Finland's currency is the Euro. • There are 5.67 million mobile phones in Finland. • The mobile company Nokia was founded in Finland. The first Nokia Mobile Phone.

The railway is 5,741km and the Highway is 78,189km. • The main Industry in Finland are Metals, Electronics and scientific instruments. • Barley, Wheat, Sugar and Potatoes are the main agricultural products in Finland.

  9. FAMOUS FOR • Finland is famous for its 200,00 lakes which include Saimaa and Inari. • Their also famous for a game resembling Baseball called Pesopallo. • Finland most famous dish is Karelian Pasty made from thin rye crust with a filling of rice.

  10. FAMOUS PEOPLE FROM FINLAND • Finland's first ever gold medalist was Hannes Kolehmainen in the 1912 Olympics where he won 3. He was called “the flying Finn”. Hannes Kolehmainen winning his country's first gold medal in the 1912 Olympics.

OTHER FACTS OF FINLAND • The people of Finland call their Suomen Tasavalta or Republiken Finland. • The literacy rate in Finland is 100%. • In 2005 tourism grossed over €6.7 billion with a 5% increase from 2004. • The largest sector of Finland's economy is services at 66%, followed by manufacturing and refining at 31% and primary production is 2.9%.

Finland's national sport resembles Baseball. • Finland are currently last in the IRB Rugby World rankings. • Finland's biggest football win is 10-2 against Estonia in 1922, their biggest defeat is 13-0 against Germany in 1940. • The Finland football team came 4th in the 1912 Olympics. • Finland have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup in their history. • Finland have won 2 sliver medals at the winter Olympics and have won 3 bronze the latest was in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver Canada . • They also won Gold at the 2011 World Championships in Slovakia and in 1995 in Sweden.

Other notable sporting events held in Finland include the 1983 and 2005 World Athletics Championship. • Finland held the 2007 Eurovision Song contest after Lordi a rock band won in 2006.
