    7. As we have heard from Theresa, our board members, staff, and allies, this has been another great year for the White Ribbon Alliance, expanding our membership and ensuring that our voice is heard from the grassroots to the global levels.   We want to use this opportunity to highlight a few of our campaign successes over the past year.   Of course, we realise that this only captures a small selection of what has been happening, so we encourage members to send their own stories to us, either through social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter, or by emailing info@whiteribbonalliance.org. 17. Raising the voices of Midwives: As part of our call for more health workers, WRA included a specific focus on midwives, who are critical to ensuring that women receive the best possible care during childbirth. We launched ‘stories of Midwives,’ the third film and exhibition in our ‘Stories’ trilogy, at the Internationla Confederation of Midwives Conference in Durban, in June this year. As part of this project members sent impassioned and motivating stories of how midwives give their all for mothers and newborns every day. We Launched the ‘Midwives Save Lives’ petition with the ICM and Save the Children; this was signed by over 5,000 midwives from 80 countries across the world and delivered to global leaders ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in September We are looking forward to continuing this work in the future Raising the voices of Midwives: As part of our call for more health workers, WRA included a specific focus on midwives, who are critical to ensuring that women receive the best possible care during childbirth. 18. As part of the push for new priorities, WRA is Tackling Disrespect & Abuse During Childbirth We know that disrespect and abuse in childbirth is a global problem, in low, medium, and high income countries. At times, disrespect and abuse during childbirth may even be a more powerful deterrent than obstacles of distance or money to women’s use of skilled birth care. This is also a direct violation of human rights – and so with support from USAID through the Health Policy Project we have developed a campaign to address disrespect and abuse of women who give birth in health facilities.   As part of this campaign, the Respectful Maternity Care Advisory Council has now been established, working on the principle that ‘safe motherhood' is more than the prevention of morbidity or mortality: It is respect for every woman’s autonomy, dignity, feelings, choices and preferences. The council’s recent work includes building a broad consensus among stakeholders groups on The Charter of the Universal Rights of Childbearing Women. Please stay tuned for more information on this. To support this exponential growth, the Global Secretariat - which was initially led by one staff member - has also found it necessary to expand with offices based in Washington, DC and in London.   However, as we continue to grow we are keen to ensure that we are doing enough to sustain our organisation - so we turned to the membership in June 2010 for feedback on the support given by the Global Secretariat.
