  2. RIT Do Now! • Do you think slaves on the middle passage ever rebelled and fought back? Do you think there is any way they could have been successful?

  3. Review Questions • There are going to be two review questions. You need to write down a letter, and then Mr. Smith will ask you to hold up your fingers.

  7. More Democratic • The Lord Proprietors were willing to share more power with property owners to attract more people to the Carolina colony • Carolina developed a political elite (based on the economic elite—plantation owners)

  8. The First House • Carolina had a bicameral (two house) assembly that made laws • Proprietors and elite had more representation than common people • The first house was the Grand Council—made up of Representatives of Proprietors, elite, and some common people

  9. Second House • A second house was established called the House of Commons to Represent the common people • In both house, the lowcountry had more representation than the upcountry

  10. Guided Practice • We are going to complete a graphic organizer as a whole group.

  11. Independent Practice • You are going to read the text and answer the questions. You need to make sure that you are working silently and independently.

  12. Extension Activity • You are a common person of the upcountry. Write a letter to a friend complaining about the government (how it is run by the elite and people of the lowcountry).
