How do I become an NSP Instructor? • Announce your intent to a Discipline Supervisor • Complete ID - Phase I (How) • Complete ID - Global Phase II (Admin) • Complete a discipline specific instructional course (What) • Complete the Discipline Mentoring Process • Supervisor Appointment • Attend required refresher events
The Mentoring Process • “Wannabes” are designated as an “Instructor Intern” • Review Discipline teaching/course materials • Team teach with experienced instructors, • • • Interns NEVER take the group/class alone • • • NSPS instructor insurance liability issue • Receive evaluations and suggestions on • • • Stage presence • • • Articulation of subject, • • • Skill Demonstrations • • • Error detection/correction, • • • Feedback to the student.
Instructor Appointment • Positive feedback from Instructors and Instructor-Trainers (IT) • Discipline Supervisor may choose to personally observe the intern • Discipline Supervisors complete a Course Completion Record (CCR) to the National office via the Division Registrar. • Good for three years • ITs – Appointed annually by the Discipline Supervisor • Discipline Specific – No crossover into other disciplines
Pre-Registering a Course on the NSPS website • The course is sanctioned by the NSPS Education Department and is covered by the National insurance policy. • Assigns a sequential, unique course ID number, linked to the Instructor Of Record (IOR). Holds the IOR accountable to close out the course • Based on projected numbers, it supports shipping course materials and completion certificates to the IOR well ahead of the class • Adds the course to the Division’s course calendar on the National website. • Non-registered courses ARE NOT sanctioned by the NSPS and NOT COVERED by the National insurance policy
Instructor Pin For purchase from the NSPS catalog only by NSP recognized instructors. Service Award Presented for continued years of service in 6 year increments (6, 12, 18, 24, 30, etc.)
Summary • The Mentoring Process is key to making new instructors. • Process times vary for each Discipline. • Timely course administration keeps the Division in the “good graces” of the National office. • The last thing the Division needs is to be a “problem child” for the National office.
