College Visits Call Ahead • Appointment with College Department heads- ex., education, engineering, nursing • Reservation for tours-visit dorms If you have a friend on campus • Visit a class • Stay overnight if possible Get documentation • Students allowed two college visits during their junior and senior year when attending with a parent • Bring proof of visit to the attendance office

Admission Vocabulary • Rolling admissions • Applications are reviewed as they are received • Early Action • Guarantees a non-binding decision by a certain date • Early Decision • Binding agreement where student agrees to withdraw all other applicants if accepted • Student Reply Date • Students have until May 1 to decide on a college

Parts of a College Application • Student part • Demographics • Intended major • Possible list of ECAs, essay, personal statement, letters of rec • Secondary School Report or Counselor Form • Verify senior schedule, rank, GPA • May ask for counselor recommendation • Transcript, including SAT/ACT scores • Check to see if college requires scores directly from SAT/ ACT • Indiana and Purdue will not accept scores from transcript

  14. 1/3 Critical Reading 1/3 Math 1/3 Writing Penalties for incorrect answers—may need to leave some blank ¼ English, ¼ Math, ¼ Science Reasoning, ¼ Reading, Composite Writing Optional, but Recommended Straight-forward question format No penalty for incorrect answers SAT, ACT, Both or Neither SAT ACT

Common Application • www.commonapp.org • One online application center where students can apply to multiple schools with one application • Over 400 private colleges throughout the country • In Indiana: Butler, Valpo, Hanover, DePauw, Earlham, U of E, Notre Dame, St. Mary’s, Goshen, Manchester, St. Joseph’s, Wabash, Purdue • If using common app, do not request transcript through Parchment account

  18. NCAA Division I or IIProspective Athletes • Must register at www.eligibilitycenter.org • Requires core courses to meet requirements • ACT/SAT scores must be sent directly to NCAA—use code 9999 • See Mr. McMillan-WCHS NCAA coordinator

  19. NAIA • Must register at www.playnaia.org • Must meet two of the three: • 18 on ACT or 860 on SAT • GPA of 2.0 or higher • Ranked in the top half of class • ACT/SAT must be sent directly- use code 9876
