IYA Secretariat • 2007: 1 FTE (IYA2009 event coordinator/web master) • 2008 – 2010: 2 FTE (+ web, graphics, layout, shipping of materials, exhibitions, secretary) • Tasks (excerpt): • coordinating global IYA events • interfacing with the hundreds of national and organizational nodes • building up and improving the infrastructure of the Secretariat • producing news, photo and video releases • writing educational material • integrating written and visual material • interviewing scientists • preparing event-related outreach material (e.g. press kits) • supporting exhibitions (from production to logistics) • supporting external requests from journalists, scientists and the general public.
IYA Secretariat • Should be up and running ~1. June • Secretary job is advertised • Will be the central contact point for SPoCs and the link to the EC IYA WG • Will be the implementing and coordinating body
IYA Identity • Branding is a vital issue • Coherent branding will help us get recognition in an already crowded media marketplace • IYA is our programme!

Branding guidelines (draft) • It is clear that we need guidelines for the use of the IYA brand and for how to "endorse" IYA activities • Reminder: it is our brand • Use of the logo on a participating organisations' web sites is a relatively simple issue: • All National Nodes can and should show the IYA logo • A “standard” National Node banner will be offered • “Standard” National Node Letterhead and Business cards will be offered • Draft "Terms and conditions" for the use of the IYA logo: • By downloading and using this logo, you declare that you conform with the following: • Notify your SPoC about the use • The SPoC should agree to the use (applying his/her own judgment), and notify the IYA secretariat about the use • The activity should support the general ideas of IYA: [TBD] • We reserve the right at any point in time to revoke/retract the use of the logo
Branding guidelines (draft) • "Endorsement" of an activity by the IAU is another more sensitive issue. • The IAU Officers decide on such encouragement. • “Expression of Encouragement" reply letters will be sent as reply • The Secretary of the IYA is instrumental in this work and will consult with the SPoCs and vice versa. • The "normal" decision tree is: initiator -> SPoC -> IYA Secretary -> IAU Officers • The activities should be able to write "This activity/product is encouraged by the IAU" (TBD).
