Estimating • When numbers do not have the same number of digits. Round each number to the greatest place of the lesser number. Example: 5,824- 298 5,800- 300= 5,500
Clustering • You can cluster to estimate when the numbers are close to the same number. Example: 412+ 398+ 385+ 409 400+ 400+ 400+ 400= 1,600
Front-end estimation • This helps you get a rough estimations. Add only the first digits that have the same place value. 6,829+ 3,401 6,000+ 3,000= 9,000
Front-end estimation with adjusting • Add the front-end digits. 6,829+ 3,401 6,000 + 3,000= 9,000 2. 829+ 401 800+ 400= 1,200 3. Next add the 9,000+ 1,200= 10,200
Practice Estimate answer. Tell me which method you used. 668+4,329 5,092-847 774+ 802+ 815+ 785+ 798 4,632+ 4,018 781-37 99,743-11,236
Mixed Review Round each number to the underlined place. 98,036 432,128,973 1,257 Write 5x5x5x5x5 in exponent form. What does that equal?
