Tahiti -Tahitians celebrate Mardi Gras on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. They have floats call flower boats. They wear traditional costumes, play music, dance traditional dances (hand dance and warrior dance), and compete in competitions (singing, stone lifting, fruit carrying, etc.). Italy -Italians celebrate carnevale with masquerades balls, entertainment, music, and parties. Many people dress up in costumes (masks and robes) and walk around. Kids throw confetti at each other and people do pranks and mischiefs, hence the carnival motto: A Carnevale Ogni Scherzo Vale: Anything goes at Carnival. Germany -Germans start celebrating karneval, fastnacht, fasnet, fosnat, fasching, fasteleer, or Fastelofvend on 11/11 at 11:11am until the Monday before Ash Wednesday. They have parades, people wearing costumes, decorative floats (where candies are being thrown to the crowd), and parties. Brazil - Brazilians celebrate carnival 46 days before Easter. They have huge parades with amazing floats and costumes. A lot of music and dancing especially samba dances and picnics and parties. New Orleans -Mardi Gras in on March 4th and it is celebrated with music, parades, picnics, floats, costumes, and excitement. People usually wear purple, gold, and green the mardi gras colors. They represent justice, power, and faith. The anthem is “ If ever I cease to love”.
