  2. Substances in our diet • The process of taking food into the body and using it for the living parts of the body is known as nutrition. 2. The food we eat is made up of three main components: I. Nutrients II. Water III. Fibre

  5. 1. CARBOHYDRATES • Present in food to give us ENERGY. • Example of carbohydrates are • STARCH and SUGARS. • There are many kinds of sugars such • as GLUCOSE and SUCROSE. • 2. FATS & OIL • IMPORTANT source • of energy. • They give us TWICE • as much Energy as • carbohydrates. • FATS are usually • SOLIDS. • When a fat is LIQUID, • it is called an OIL. • 3. PROTEIN • -Used for growth and repair of • worn-out tissues.

  9. III. FIBRE (ROUGHAGE) • Fibre is present in all plant food like grains, fruits and vegetable. • gives bulk to the food and helps it to move through the intestine. • helps to prevent CONSTIPATION.

  10. Balanced Diet A diet which contains the right amount of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, water and fibre to maintain good health.
