Important Dates and Information • Test One – October 3 online – 25% • Test Two – November 21 online – 25% • In Class Activities (attendance and participation) – 10% • Presentations – in labs- (Nov 28 and Dec 5) - 10% • Portfolio Due – October 17 reports completed to date and full portfolio November 28– 30%
Let’s Do Something Fun!! • Think/Pair/Share • With a partner come up with five things that you would like to see happen in class • Join with another group of two and compare and come up with your top five suggestions for a classroom code of conduct. • Let’s discuss as a class.
Overview of the Course • Learning Outcomes • Explain the importance and purpose of record keeping and report writing in the human services field in accordance with best practice knowledge. • Write reports relevant to the social services field that are clear, concise and in keeping with accurate spelling and grammatical rules. • Apply relevant computer software to the completion of reports used in a variety of human service agencies. • Develop marketing tools that meet the needs of social service organizations using current computer technology.
Essential Employability Skills • Communication skills both written, verbal and visual • Interact with groups and teams • Use of technology and information systems • Analyze, evaluate and apply relevant information from a variety of sources • Manage use of time • Take responsibility for one’s own actions, decisions, and consequences.
Labs • Sept 5 both labs (today) – SALS visit – • Lab A go directly from here to there. • Lab B meet me there at 12pm. • Sept 12 both labs – Library visit- • both labs meet in the library computer classroom on the first floor.
Next Week • Read chapter One from text • Custom Edition for Durham College Record Keeping and Report Writing • Go on DC Connect and find the format for the I Am Poem, print it off and bring to class completed. It will be under week one content.
