  4. Benefits • Simplicity • Effectiveness • Comprehensiveness • Flexibility • Engaging • Inexpensive

  5. Help on How to Use • Write down the Problem • Ask why and write the answer below the problem • Ask why again and write the answer • Don’t stop until you discover the problems main root

  6. Determining the Main Root • It there any proof to support this root-cause determination? • Is there any history or knowledge to indicate that the possible root-case could actually produce such a Problem?

  7. Determining the Main Root • Is there anything “underneath” the possible root-cause that could be a more probable root cause? • Is there anything that this possible root-cause requires in order to produce the Problem? • Are there any other causes that could possibly produce the same Problem?

  8. Example Problem: You are on your way home and your car stops in the middle of the road

  9. Example 1. Why did it stop? • Because it ran out of Gas 2. Why did it ran out of gas? • Because I didn’t buy gas on the way 3. Why didn’t you buy gas • Because I didn’t have enough money

  10. Example 4. Why didn’t you have enough money • Because I lost it all in a poker game 5. Why did you lose all your money in poker • Because I’m not very good at bluffing when I don’t have a good hand
