How a Bill Becomes a Law http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEJL2Uuv-oQ Bill introduced by a member of the House or Senate Bill referred to committee and subcommittees- mark up and for deliberation. Committee reports to House or Senate Bill debated, amended and voted on Bill may be killed or scheduled for debate/vote If passed, sent to other house to repeat process President signs = Law If bill passes both houses, it is sent to the President Possibly a conference committee or President vetoes Congress can override veto with 2/3 vote
Executive Branch • Designed to enforce the law • Has some legislative responsibilities • Made up of President, Cabinet and Agencies

Electoral College • Each state gets apportioned votes based on how many representatives they have in the Congress which is 435 (house of reps) plus 100 (senate) plus 3 votes allocated to Washington DC. • Each state decides how to pick Electoral Voters (usually based on political party- members of Congress excluded) • Winner take all in each state (except ME and NE) • 270 wins it • 1824, 1876, 1888, 2000 elections didn’t follow popular vote
