  1. Warm up WNB #4 Activity for “Lamb to The Slaughter” Watch “Lamb to the Slaughter” G2: Begin reading “The Lottery” Finish reading the story for homework, and write down irony and foreshadowing. 10th Lit & Composition 9/5 – M1 & M3 9/10 – G2

  2. Write about a memory that involves a car. Have you ever been embarrassed by a car you or someone else was driving? Did you ever get sick in a car as a child? Were you ever bored to death on a car trip? Have you ever been envious of someone’s car? Have you ever had an adventure in a car? Pull up a car memory and describe it. • Are you an early, late, or on-time person? Why? What do you think made you that way? How do you feel about being that way? How do others feel about it? Will you try to change this about yourself or not? Explain WNB Entry #4

  3. Talk about the story. What exactly happened? What did Mary’s husband tell her that upset her so much? Was the ending truly a surprise or not? Discuss each of the statements on the following slide. Decide which ones you agree with most and least. You won’t all necessarily agree with each other. Try to discuss your ideas with those in your group who disagree with you and listen in turn to their points of view. In your groups…

  4. Write the statement your group agrees most strongly with at the top of your paper and list the others in order, down to the ones you agree with least. On the right hand side of the sheet, you should write down specific lines from the story that PROVE your point of view. 1. Mary didn’t regret what she had done. 2. It is likely that Mary would get away with her crime. 3. Mary suspected that her husband was deceiving her. 4. Mary had all along planned to kill her husband with a leg of lamb. 5. Mary lied to the police because she was pregnant. 6. Patrick Maloney deserved what happened to him. Agree or Disagree?
