  4. About Sherman Cindy Sherman (born January 19, 1954) is an American photographer and film director, best known for her conceptual portraits. Sherman currently lives and works in New York City. In 1995, she was the recipient of a MacArthu Fellowship. She is represented by Sprüth Magers Berlin London in Europe and Metro Pictures gallery in New York. Through a number of different series of works, Sherman has raised challenging and important questions about the role and representation of women in society, the media and the nature of the creation of art.

  5. About Bourke White Margaret Bourke-White was born in New York City on 14th June, 1904. She became interested in photography while studying at Cornell University. After studying photography under Clarence White at Columbia University she opened a studio in Cleveland where she specialized in architectural photography.

Techniques Sherman To create her photographs, Sherman shoots alone in her studio, assuming multiple roles as author, director, make-up artist, hairstylist, wardrobe mistress, and of course, model. She uses elaborate costumes and make up to transform her identity for each image . In her work, Sherman is both revealed and hidden, named and nameless.

  7. Techniques Bourke White She made history with the publication of her haunting photos of the Depression. She developed the styles and techniques that she needed for various formats on her own. Bourke White had an excellent sense of simple, poster like design, and a sophisticated photographic technique, both perhaps the legacy of her apprenticeship in the demanding field of industrial reportage. She was excited by the new opportunities presented by photoflash bulbs, which made possible clear and highly detailed pictures under circumstances that would otherwise have been difficult or impossible for photography. The use of two or three bulbs, synchronized to flash together as the shutter was released, could produce a reasonable simulation of normal interior light. Bourke White became very skillful at this technique, which required especially delicate calculation when the level of the interior flash had to be balanced against the level of natural light visible through a room's windows
