  5. What's the pattern? It's nice to get a card. It's nicer to get a real card than an e-card. It's + adj + infinitive + noun 1 + than + noun 2

  6. Grammar Point: Comparative Adjectives USAGE • used to talk about differences between 2 things, people, events • The spaghetti is more delicious than the pizza. • She's taller than he is. • The second lecture was longer. • comparative form often used with “than”

Grammar Point: Comparative Adjectives FORM • Most 1 syllable adjectives and some 2 syllable adjectives adjective + -er • most other adjectives of 2 or more syllables more + adjective • “less” used with adjectives in comparisons • less + adjective • Desktop computers are less expensive than laptops.

SPELLING RULES • adjs ending in -e, add -er nice-->nicer • adjs ending in a consonant + -y, change “y” to “i” and add -er busy-->busier • most adjs ending in vowel + consonant, double the final consonant and add -er big-->bigger thin-->thinner • DO NOT double consonants in words ending in -w slow-->slower
