Culture • Language: Their language is Malagasy and French. • Food: They eat rice with meat, fish or poultry. Some popular foods they eat are romazava, which is beef and vegetable stew with manioc greens.
Culture Ethnic groups: Islam in Madagascar constitutes 10-15% of the population. Muslims are divided between those Malagasy ethnicity, Indians, Pakistanis, Comorians. • Clothing: Their clothing is European styled. They dye their clothes different colors. They get the dyes from berries, minerals and other natural resources.
Government • The government is headed by a prime minister who is appointed by the president. • The type of government is republic.
Location • It is located to the east of the southern part of Africa. It is the worlds fourth largest island.
Religion • Their religion is Christian, Roman Catholic, protestant, and Muslim • Christian: 40% and is divided evenly between Roman Catholic an protestant and the remaining 5% is Muslim
Physical features • Rivers: Mananara River, Mangoro River, and Manigory River. • Largest lake: Lake Alatora • Major landforms: Mountains, volcano’s, rivers, lakes, bays, wetlands, waterfalls, and the Mozambique channel.
Important people and places • Important people: Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo, Jacques Rabemananjara, Tsiranana, and Gabriel Ramanantsoa. • Important places: Antananarivo and Morondava
Humans and the physical environment • Humans must live off the land that surrounds them, and they are dependent upon natural resource use. • Humans impacted the environment by deforestation and habitat destruction, agricultural fires, erosion and soil degradation, and overexploitation of living resources including hunting and over-collection of speicies from the wild. • Career opportunities available would be farming, mining, fishing, and forestry.
